Nestled in the woods of Stratham, New Hampshire, Timberland’s Headquarters building had two Active DAS Systems (Verizon and AT&T) installed in 2009 and 2011 respectively. As these legacy systems were installed pre-LTE when Dual-band (PCS and Cellular) were the only cellular bands being utilized by Carriers, it was unknown if they were still working or how they were performing. One of these Carriers engaged Envision Signal Testing to perform an In-building Walk Test to assess the overall health of the old system and determine what could be done to bring it up to LTE standards.

Upon testing, it was determined that each system was still operational, but only transmitting on 1 channel each. Upon further investigation and with a great deal of due diligence, a plan was designed to incorporate both systems using the new Cel-Fi by Nextivity Active Fiber DAS Hybrid technology whereby both Carriers would now transmit 2 channels each and would also add T-Mobile/Sprint coverage over the same combined system. Utilizing the existing infrastructure saved Timberland approximately $100,000 in additional equipment and labor costs.
